While furloughed during COVID, Don took the opportunity to tap into his creative keg of ideas. What poured out was a concrete geyser of concepts that became the Detroit Tiki Co.
Aside from producing his original tiki idols, Don, and his wife, Betty also furbish decorative table lamps, stylish jewelry, fountains, and so much more.
Detroit Tiki Co. items have graced the likes of Atomic Tiki Bazaar (since its inception), Mutiny Bazaar, Lowbrow Aloha, TU Tiki Flea Market, Eastern Palace Club, and the Two James Distillery. His table lamps can be found as far as the Wusong Road Bar in Cambridge, MA, and at Spike's Breezeway Tiki Bar in Costa Mesa, CA — among countless other home tiki bars.
"You have a knack for how to stylize in a modernist way with a touch of cartoony-ness, but not too much, while still retaining the original design first and foremost."
- Sven Kirsten
